About Portland APD and Dr. Polich
Laura Polich earned her Master’s degree in Audiology from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1987, and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. She had previously earned a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from Eastern Washington University in 1980. In addition to employment as a clinical audiologist, Dr. Polich has taught audiology and speech pathology courses at the college level in California and Texas. Teaching the class in Auditory Processing Disorders at Lamar University from 2004 to 2007 was the impetus for establishing Portland Auditory Processing Diagnostics.
When Dr. Polich arrived in Portland in 2007, she found very limited provision of auditory processing evaluations in the area. A year later she founded Portland APD to provide specialized evaluations focused on APD, as well as counseling to parents about remediation strategies. Dr. Polich maintains Audiology licenses for both Oregon and Washington. She is certified nationally by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
Portland APD offers the only c-ABR (complex auditory brainstem response) testing for auditory processing disorders in the Western states, and it is the only clinic in Washington and Oregon specializing in auditory processing evaluations. Dr. Polich’s goal is to help families open the door to understanding auditory processing disorders and pass through to a resolution.
